Kitchener Prestige Flooring is based at 137 Glasgow Street, a few minutes from Belmont Village and Westmount. We install, refinish and repair floors for homeowners, landlords, builders and businesses in every part of Kitchener, from downtown lofts to the newest streets in Huron Park.

Doon and Pioneer Park mix 1970s to 1990s homes with newer streets in Doon South. Huron Park is mostly recent construction near the Huron Natural Area.

Stanley Park and Idlewood are full of 1950s and 1960s bungalows and backsplits, many with oak strip floors under wall-to-wall carpet. Chicopee adds larger lots near the ski hill.

Forest Heights has 1960s and 1970s family homes ready for their second or third floor. Westmount, close to our shop, has larger older homes with oak floors worth restoring.
Kitchener has the widest span of housing stock in Waterloo Region. Each era brings its own flooring problems.
Homes built before 1920 have plank subfloors, often laid diagonally, and original pine that is softer than modern oak. Floors slope where foundations have settled.
We re-fasten plank subfloors, correct slope where it matters and sand soft pine gently. The Victoria Park Area Heritage Conservation District rules focus on exteriors, so interior floors can be restored or replaced without a heritage permit.
Newer homes sit on engineered I-joists and slab-on-grade basements. I-joists can bounce under tile if the spans are long, and new slabs are still releasing moisture.
We check joist specs before tile, and we test basement slabs before any wood or glue-down vinyl.
Much of Kitchener draws on groundwater, and many basements sit close to the water table. Slabs poured before the 1990s rarely have a vapour barrier underneath.
That is why waterproof luxury vinyl plank is the default basement floor we install here, over a tested slab.

Basements and rental units across the city get waterproof vinyl plank more than anything else. We flatten the slab first, because that is where most vinyl failures start.
Carpet-to-hardwood staircases are the most requested upgrade in Kitchener's newer subdivisions. Our stairs, treads and railings team matches treads to your floor.

Often, yes. Original pine and fir can usually be patched with salvaged boards of the same age and width, then sanded and finished to blend. Where salvage is not available, we source reclaimed stock or have boards milled.
