Serving Galt, Preston and Hespeler
Cambridge was formed in 1973 from the towns of Galt, Preston and Hespeler, plus the village of Blair. Most locals still say which one they live in.
Each has its own character. Galt has stone and brick along the Grand River, Preston grew around its mineral springs and mills, and Hespeler has a compact village core.
We work in all of them, plus the newer subdivisions that have filled the land between.

West Galt, Dickson Hill and East Galt
Dickson Hill and West Galt hold some of the finest Victorian and Edwardian homes in the region. East Galt mixes workers' cottages with postwar houses.
Preston and Riverside
Preston sits where the Speed River meets the Grand. Its older homes and Riverside Park area mix century houses with 1950s bungalows.
Hespeler Village
Hespeler's village core has mill-era homes and a small main street, with newer subdivisions spreading outward along Hespeler Road.
Blair, Clemens Mill and Southwood
Blair is a small heritage village. Clemens Mill dates mostly from the 1980s and 1990s, and Southwood is a postwar neighbourhood of bungalows and split levels.
Flooring in Galt's Stone and Brick Heritage Homes
Cambridge has the oldest and most architecturally significant housing stock in Waterloo Region. Much of old Galt was built by Scottish stonemasons from local limestone.
Those homes bring their own flooring issues, and they reward careful work.
Victorian and Edwardian Softwood Floors
Pine and fir are softer than oak and dent more easily. They also darken with age into a warm amber colour that new wood cannot match.
We sand softwood with lighter pressure and finer grits, and patch with salvaged boards of the same age.
Stone Foundations, Rising Damp and Basement Moisture
Rubble stone foundations wick moisture from the soil, and basements in old Galt can be damp year round. We test before choosing any basement floor.
Sloping Floors and Joist Sag in Century Buildings
A century of settling leaves many floors sloping or sagging. Where the slope matters, we shim or sister joists through our subfloor repair and replacement service before new flooring goes down.
Loft and Condo Conversions in the Gaslight District
Converted mill and factory buildings have concrete or heavy timber floors and very little sound separation. New condos have strict sound rules for hard floors.
We install floating floors over acoustic underlays, with perimeter isolation so sound does not travel into the walls. Test data is provided for condo board approval.
Industrial and Manufacturing Floors in Cambridge
Cambridge has the heaviest manufacturing base in Waterloo Region, including major automotive production and a long line of suppliers, warehouses and food processors near the 401.

Grand River Proximity and Water Damage Work
Downtown Galt sits right on the Grand River. The flood of May 1974 put much of the core under water, and high water remains a real risk for low-lying properties.

Cambridge's south end and the areas around Hespeler continue to grow. New homes need basement flooring, stair upgrades and replacements for builder-grade finishes.

Ask for a Free Quote Is there original hardwood under my carpet in a Galt home?
Very often, yes. Many Galt, Preston and Hespeler homes built before the 1950s have pine, fir or oak under later carpet or linoleum. We lift a corner in a closet during the estimate to check what you have and its condition.
Can a floor over a century old still be sanded?
Usually, if there is enough wood above the tongue. Old pine and fir boards were often thicker than modern flooring. We measure first, and when a floor cannot take a full sand, we recommend a gentler screen and recoat.
Do you do industrial floor coatings in Cambridge?
Yes. We grind, repair and coat plant, warehouse and shop floors across Cambridge with epoxy and urethane cement systems, plus line striping and joint repair.
Can you coat a plant floor without shutting down production?
In most cases. We divide the floor into zones and work weekends, shutdowns or off shifts, using fast-curing systems where downtime is tight.
