What Custom Floor Work Involves
Custom work goes beyond laying a product in rows. It combines design, precise cutting and installation skill.
It might be a walnut border framing an oak dining room, a stone medallion in a foyer, or a company logo set into a lobby floor. Each piece has to align with the room, the doors and the light.
We handle the whole process, from the first sketch to the final finish coat.

Medallions and Centre Features
Medallions are circular, square or star-shaped inlays set at a focal point, usually a foyer or the centre of a large room. They come in wood, stone or mixed materials.
Company Logos in Lobbies and Entrances
A logo in the floor greets every visitor. We make them in porcelain, stone, wood or epoxy terrazzo, sized and positioned for the entrance.
Mixed Material Transitions, Wood Into Tile
Wood flowing into tile in a curve or pattern replaces the usual straight threshold. It is a popular way to join kitchens and living areas.
Pattern Work Beyond Straight Lay
Pattern floors are a custom design in themselves.

Feature Strips and Species Contrast
Thin strips of walnut, maple or metal set into a floor create lines that guide the eye. Contrasting species make patterns and borders stand out.
From Sketch to Template to Floor
Every custom feature follows the same approval process.
- Sketch and brief: we discuss the idea, materials and budget on site.
- Scaled drawing: we produce a CAD drawing aligned with your room measurements.
- Template: for complex pieces, a full-size template is made and checked on the floor.
- Fabrication: pieces are cut, often by waterjet, from the approved drawing.
- Dry layout: the finished pieces are laid on the floor for your approval.
- Installation: only then is anything glued, set or nailed down.
Waterjet Cutting and Precision Fitting
Waterjet cutting uses a high-pressure stream of water and abrasive to cut stone, porcelain, metal and wood to exact shapes. It produces tight joints that hand cutting cannot match.
Medallions and logos arrive as a kit of pieces that fit together like a puzzle. We set them into the surrounding floor with tight, consistent joints.
Expansion, Movement and Mixed Material Risk
Custom floors fail when different materials are treated as if they behave the same. Wood expands and shrinks with humidity. Stone and tile barely move at all.
Where wood meets tile or stone, we leave a controlled joint filled with a flexible sealant or cork strip. The two materials are built to exactly the same height.

Ask for a Free Quote Can you put our company logo in the lobby floor?
Yes. Logos can be waterjet cut in stone, porcelain or wood and inlaid into a lobby floor, or poured into epoxy terrazzo. We work from your vector artwork and provide a drawing for approval.
How long does a custom medallion take to produce?
Stock medallions usually arrive in one to two weeks. Custom waterjet medallions typically take three to six weeks from approved drawing to delivery, and logos can take four to eight weeks.
Can wood and tile be combined in one floor?
Yes, and it looks striking. Because wood moves and tile does not, we build the two to the same height and separate them with a flexible joint so the transition does not crack or gap.
Do you provide a drawing before installation?
Always. You approve a scaled drawing first, and for larger features we dry lay the finished pieces on the floor so you can see them in place before anything is glued.
